Rifles of 1892 – 1916

Model 44

The Model 44, introduced in 1894, continued the name “Ideal”. The 44-action stayed in production through 1947. The 44 was a large frame, falling block action. The action was simplified by the deletion of the side plate. Also, this began a new model numbering system 44 through 54 initially and then the “Pope Model” and later the “404” model(after WWI, several other model names were used). Early actions can be distinguished by an extractor in the 7 o’clock position, which switched in 1901 to the 6 o’clock position.
