Rifles of 1892 – 1916

Medium Frame 044 ½

Ideal No. 044 ½  “English Model”.  This rifle was the base grade of a scaled-down version of the 44 ½ action. The use of smokeless powders required a stronger action in the small frame rifle firing centerfire ammunition such as 25/20 or 32/20. Stevens introduced the 044 ½ to meet this need naming it the “English Model” and outfitted it with a shotgun butt. This action was only carried forward in one other offering, the No 56 Ladies model, which is addressed separately. The rifle weighed about 5 ¾ pounds and was introduced in 1904. These rifles are rarely encountered.
