Fred C. Ross
Fred C. Ross, a noted shooter, was brought into Stevens in 1901 to be Pope’s assistant. He was let go in 1913 at the time Stevens was transitioning out of the serious target rifle business. Ross is attributed with a special design butt stock.
In addition, barrels with Pope style rifling, but with right instead of lefthand twist rifling, are attributed to Ross. However, these barrels are unmarked. Identifying a rifle as a Ross creation is difficult.
